Help WWF rehabilitate endangered marine turtles
Make them smile at such a unique and interesting gift!
When you Send a Turtle to Rehab, one of the thousands of sick or injured turtles that are regularly brought to the Bali turtle centre for recuperation will be nursed back to health.
Your gift helps WWF to ensure as many turtles as possible are re-released into the wild.
Indonesia is a home to 6 out of 7 of the world's marine turtle species. It provides important nesting and foraging grounds, as well as important migration routes at the cross roads of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
All 6 species of marine turtle found in Indonesia are listed as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.
The main threats faced by marine turtles include habitat and nesting site destruction, by-catch, illegal trade and unsustainable exploitation.
In addition to rehabilitiating turtles and releasing them into the ocean, this centre provides WWF the opportunity to work with local people and visitors. At our turtle centre in Bali, Indonesia, WWF is educating people on the urgency of conserving and reviving turtle populations. As well, this centre means we can train and work with locals on turtle-based eco-tourism, which helps to provide alternative livelihood options for turtle traders.
In Indonesia and around the world, WWF works closely with local people in researching and conserving critical habitats of marine turtles and reducing exploitation.
We also work with government and businesses to help them reduce the habitat destruction and develop effective eco-tourism.
When you send a turtle to rehab, it gives sea turtles in Indonesia, and around the world, a real chance at survival.
